Carom privacy
Last updated October 17, 2026
Carom is a free daily pool puzzle. It has no ads, no purchases, no analytics and no tracking cookies. To play on the website you need an account (it keeps the leaderboard fair); without one you can look around and read the rules, and nothing about you leaves your device.

What we keep, why, and for how long
| What | Why | How long |
| Your shots, streak, chalk, items and settings, on your device | To play. They stay in your browser and never leave it unless you sign in. | Until you clear them |
| Your account: email address and password, or your Google account | To sign you in on every device. The password is stored in protected, hashed form by Firebase: nobody can read it. | Until you delete your account |
| Your name, and your photo if you sign in with Google | To show you on the leaderboard and in challenges. With Google we use only your first name; you can change it any time. | Until you delete your account |
| Your final shots: direction, strength, result, practice shots used, time | Leaderboard, streak, and replays of your shot | The last 60 days |
| Your leagues and streak | Leaderboards with your friends | Until you leave them or delete your account |
| Your chalk, items and look | The shop, on every device | Until you delete your account |
| Your challenges: name, photo, shots, when you joined, and a private list of your challenges | Challenges against your friends | Deleted 7 days after the challenge ends, the next time you or its creator open Carom; always deleted with your account |
| Your account settings: whether you've seen the welcome, whether you've taken your first shot, and how many practice shots you've used today | So the welcome shows only once and practice shots don't come back on another device. Only you can read them. | Until you delete your account |
| Who invited you, if you signed up with a friend's invite link | To give your friend the invite reward (50 chalk) once you've played your first table | Until you delete your account |
| Maps you publish: the map, its name, your name, its difficulty and the shot that solves it | So other signed-in players can play your maps | Until you delete the map or your account |
| Only if you turn on the daily reminder (in the app added to your Home screen): a code that lets each of your devices receive notifications, its time zone, the time you chose, your language, and the day of the last reminder | To send you one reminder a day, only on days you haven't played yet. Only you can read them. | Until you turn the reminder off, sign out on that device or delete your account. A device that can no longer receive notifications is removed automatically, and one that doesn't open Carom for 30 days gets no more reminders. |
| Technical logs: IP address, browser, time | Kept by our providers to deliver the site and keep it secure | As set by each provider, usually a few weeks |
The legal basis is the performance of the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), and, for security logs, our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We don't use your data for anything else, we don't profile you and we never sell your data.
Who can see it
Other signed-in players see your name, your photo (if it comes from Google), your results, your streak, your leagues and your look (table, ball, cue and trail). In a challenge, the other players see your name, photo and shots. The maps you publish show their name and your name. An online challenge can be seen and joined by any signed-in player, who then sees your name, photo and shots in it. If you signed up with an invite link, other signed-in players could see who invited you. Nobody else sees your email address, and nothing is visible to people without an account.
Donations
If the site offers a "Buy me a coffee" link (Settings → Support Carom), donating is voluntary and happens on the donation site (for example Buy Me a Coffee), under its own privacy policy. Carom doesn't receive or keep your payment details, and a donation doesn't unlock anything in the game.
Who helps us run Carom
- Netlify hosts the website and receives the technical data every website receives, such as your IP address. Netlify privacy policy.
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores accounts and game data. Game data is kept in Google's European data centers. Firebase privacy and security.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) delivers the daily reminder, only if you turn it on. On the way, the notification passes through your browser's push service (for example Apple's or Google's).
- GitHub (Microsoft) runs, once an hour, the small program that decides who gets a reminder and sends it. It reads the reminder settings and whether you've played today; its logs keep only totals. GitHub privacy statement.
- Google sign-in is used only if you choose "Continue with Google". Google then handles your sign-in under its own privacy policy.
These providers process data on our behalf under their data processing terms. Some of them may process data outside the European Union, for example in the United States: these transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Carom contacts Google only if you sign in (and, for the reminder, only if you turn it on). If you don't sign in, the website loads everything, fonts included, from its own server.
Cookies and storage
Carom sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising tools. It keeps only what the game needs in your browser's storage:
| What | Where | Why | How long |
| Your shots, streak, chalk, items, settings, map drafts, your best results on maps and, until you sign up, the invite link you arrived with | Local storage on your device | Needed to play | Until you clear it: Settings → Clear data on this device |
| Your sign-in | Firebase, in your browser's storage (only if you sign in) | Needed to keep you signed in | Until you sign out |
| A small background script (service worker) and the notification subscription, only if you turn on the daily reminder | Your device | Needed to receive and show the reminder | Until you turn the reminder off or remove the app |
| Google's sign-in cookies | On Google's own pages, only if you choose "Continue with Google" | Set by Google to sign you in | Set by Google |
This is only technically necessary storage, so under the Italian data protection authority's cookie guidelines it doesn't need your consent, and Carom doesn't show a cookie banner.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your data, and object to how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself in the game:
- Settings → Download my data: a file with everything Carom keeps about you.
- Settings → Change name: the name other players see.
- Settings → Daily reminder: turn the reminder on or off. You can also block Carom's notifications in your device settings.
- Settings → Delete account: your account and all your data on our servers, deleted right away.
- Settings → Clear data on this device: everything saved on this phone or computer.
For anything else write to : we answer within one month. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Italy it's the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Age
To create an account you must be at least 14. Playing on the website needs an account, so younger people can't play there; nothing about them is collected.
Security
The site works only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Database rules let each player change only their own data, and every score is recalculated from the shot itself, so nobody can write someone else's results.
Changes
If this page changes, we update the date at the top. If we ever change what we collect or why, we'll tell you in the game first.

Privacy di Carom
Ultimo aggiornamento: 17 ottobre 2026
Chi ci aiuta a far funzionare Carom
I tuoi diritti
